No more free Xbox Music streaming after December 1st

Canadians have been enjoying Microsoft’s Xbox Music free streaming on desktop for just over two years, now. Unfortunately, if they want to continue enjoying that music, they’re going to have to cough up some cash to do so.

Microsoft’s Canadian Xbox website this week informed users that free streaming would be discontinued on at the beginning of December. After December 1st, users will have to pay $9.99 to stream music and radio on desktop. This brings the service in line with what Windows Phone users have been paying for streaming on their phones.

“Effective December 1, 2014, the free Xbox Music streaming feature currently available on Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and over the Internet will be discontinued in all countries where it is offered,” Microsoft support page reads. “We are focusing Xbox Music to deliver the ultimate music purchase and subscription service experience for our customers. With Xbox Music Pass, you have access to millions of songs on your PC, tablet, Xbox, phone, and the web.”

Users can still sign up for a 30-day free trial before deciding if they want to pay $10 per month for an Xbox Music Pass.
