Motorola launches tracking tool for Lollipop upgrades

Motorola confirmed its plans to upgrade this year’s and last year’s Moto X and Moto G devices to Lollipop but the company didn’t talk about its plans beyond those devices. That changed today as the company has launched a Lollipop update tracking page for all of its devices.

The page breaks everything down by carrier, and is right now only applicable to users in the United States. What’s more, selecting a device on a U.S. carrier doesn’t yield much information, and neither does selecting a non-carrier (retail) device.

It seems all of the devices set to receive Lollipop upgrades have yet to get a specific date or even a timeframe. The page returns the same response Motorola gave us initially when discussing updates to Android 5.0.

“This device will be upgraded to the Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support.”

Presumably this page will be upgraded down the line to reflect actual rollout dates. For now, the page does show us which Motorola devices won’t ever be updated to Android 5.0. According to this tracking page, there will be no updates for the following devices:

  • Atrix HD
  • Motorola XT886
  • Motorola Razr (XT908)
  • Motorola Razr Maxx (XT908)
  • Motorola Milestone 3
  • Motorola Xyboard 8.2 (MZ607)
  • Motorola Xyboard 10.1 (MZ615)
  • Motorola Xoom Family Edition (MZ505)
  • Motorola Xoom WiFi (MZ604)

Not totally surprising, given most of these devices have yet to receive KitKat but it’s good to have confirmation. Motorola notes that the Droid Razr HD developer edition is still receiving Android 4.4.2 (as of May). The company hasn’t said if users can expect Lollipop once that rollout is finished.
