Android 5.0 Lollipop source code hits AOSP

Android lollipop

With the Nexus 9 already shipping and pre-orders for the Nexus 6 going live any day now, we’re excited for a full release of Lollipop for other devices, too. While we’re still waiting for Lollipop to hit our older Nexus devices, the good news is that things are motoring along, and Google has pushed the source code for Android 5.0 to AOSP so developers can get stuck into the newest version of Android.

This version of Android appears under lollipop LRX21M and though the release specifically names Shamu (the codename for Nexus 6), Android Police points out that there’s also device-specific repositories for every Nexus device since the 2012 Nexus 7.

Google’s Glen Kasten has posted about the release on the on Google Groups, detailing the changes that have been made to the documentation accompanying this latest version of Android, including updates to the sections on audio, the camera, security, encryption, and navigation, with relevant links to those pages on source.android.com. You can check that out here.
