Jawbone announces the UP Move and UP3 activity trackers

Jawbone UP3

Jawbone announced two new wearables today to expand its portfolio of activity trackers. Designed to sit alongside the UP and UP 24, the UP Move ($49.99 USD) and UP3 $(179.99 USD) fill in the low-end and high-end price points, respectively.

As the premium model, the UP3 packs in as much sensing technology as it can, tracking heart rate, respiration, temperature, galvanic skin response, and of course movement, with a tri-axis accelerometer. Jawbone intends for the UP3 to be worn as an all-day tracker, and has tossed in the ability to measure resting heartbeat and sleep.

Water resistant up to 10 meters, the tracker can last a week on a charge. The UP3 is also smart enough to recognize specific activities when they start, so it has your back if you forget to tell it before you start your run.

On the low-end, the UP Move features bare-bones tracking: step counting, calories burned, and some basic sleep information. But the wearable does come in five different colours, and features a standard watch battery instead of a charging port, providing up to six months of battery life.

The UP Move will be available for pre-order November 7th, with in-store availability coming late November. The UP3 will be available “this winter” according to Jawbone, and only with iOS compatibility to start. Android support will be available early next year. Both wearables come with an updated Smart Coach app to provide insights and suggestions for modifying your daily routine.
