Rogers to release the BlackBerry Classic, online reservations now open

The BlackBerry Classic will bring back the one-time popular “belt” row of function keys (call, menu, trackpad, back, and end buttons). BlackBerry CEO John Chen stated earlier this week that the Classic will officially be unveiled during three simultaneous events in New York, Singapore and Frankfurt on December 17th.

BlackBerry went live with Classic pre-orders through its online store, in which Canadians can score the QWERTY touch unlocked for $499. While it’s expected that most Canadian carriers will make the BlackBerry Classic available to customers, Rogers is first out of the gate showing support for the upcoming BB10 device, beginning taking online reservations. As usual, eager customers can drop down a refundable $40 to secure the Classic on launch day. There is no word on the 2-year contact price point.

The BlackBerry Classic has the tag line of “The smartphone you trust, with the power you couldn’t imagine.” As for specs, the Classic sports a 3.5-inch display with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 2515mAh battery, 8MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and weigh in at 178 grams. BlackBerry previously noted that the Classic is “crafted from premium materials and designed for reliability and durability.”
