Samsung launches video sharing service ‘Milk Video’ for U.S. Galaxy users

When Samsung announced Milk Music for U.S. users earlier this year, we hoped the company would eventually roll out the service in Canada. After all, it was powered by Slacker, which has been available in Canada since early 2010. Sadly, it seems Samsung is more focused on the U.S. market than ever. The South Korean company is this week celebrating the launch of a video streaming service called Milk Video.

Like Milk Music, Milk Video is beautifully designed. It’s sleek with an emphasis on visual, putting content at the forefront and using overlays instead of headers to display contextual information (like author, title, and number of shares). Tapping and holding on any video brings up three sharing options (favourite, send, and repost). Navigation is done via a slide-out panel that offers search, as well as the ability to browse the most popular videos across an array of genres.

Content comes via Funny or Die, VICE, and Red Bull, GQ, BuzzFeed, Vogue, College Humor and other big name brands. Users will each have their own profile that displays the videos they repost, so if you have a friend that consistently shares the funniest videos, you can follow them and let them spoon feed content directly to your feed.

The downside (aside from Milk Video being U.S.-only), is that only Galaxy users will be able to use this app. It’s on the Play Store right now but it’s only compatible with the following phones:

  • Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S III mini
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 mini
  • Galaxy S5
  • Galaxy Note II
  • Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note 4
  • Galaxy Mega
