Rogers confirms HTC 8X will get Windows Phone 8.1 ‘soon’

For the last couple of months we’ve been hearing about Microsoft’s plans for the next generation of Windows and how all current-gen devices will be updated to Windows 10 However, there are still some Windows Phone users that are waiting for the update to Windows Phone 8.1 (first released this past Spring).

HTC confirmed plans to release the Windows Phone 8.1 update to HTC 8X users in September, about a month after it announced the Windows Phone version of the One M8. The company originally said the update would start rolling out in late October but mentioned nothing about specific markets. Early in November, the update still hadn’t arrived and Ubergizmo reported that it had been delayed in the U.S.

The good news is that it is still on its way to Canadian 8X users, we just don’t know when. Rogers’ OS Upgrades schedule now shows the Windows Phone 8.1 update for the HTC 8X as ‘coming soon.’ Unfortunately, there’s nothing more specific than that. We’ll keep you posted if we hear more about a release date. In the mean time, if you’re the tinkering kind, you could always try your hand at a manual install.
