Viber games will be available to Canadians in January

Chat app Viber has slowly been adding functionality over the last year. The company just announced Public Chats in mid-November, and today it’s adding games to the mix.

Today’s news delivers on promises from CEO Talmon Marco, who earlier this year promised a Viber gaming platform before the end of 2014.  About two months ago, The Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the matter that said the company was exploring partnerships with game developers. The company apparently wants to be careful about the games available through its platform and is keeping the API private for that reason.

TechCrunch reports that the company will initially launch three games, Viber Candy Mania, Viber Pop, and Wild Luck Casino. These are original titles developed by two launch partners (Storm8 and Playtika). The launch will cover only five countries (Belarus, Malaysia, Israel, Singapore, and the Ukraine), but the games will roll out to all users in all countries, including Canada, next month.
