BlackBerry to bring BlackBerry 10.3.1 to existing devices in February

BlackBerry Classic review

As John Chen fielded questions on stage at the Classic launch today in New York City, he acknowledged that a large portion of its existing user base is impatiently waiting for the same software that debuted earlier this year on the Passport.

While BB 10.3.1 has been specifically upgraded to take advantage of the Classic’s trackpad, other features, from a UI refresh to an improved Quick Settings experience to better camera performance, are slated to roll out to the Z10, Q10, Z30 and others.

Ron Louks, President of Devices and Emerging Solutions, said that the company plans to complete the update and roll it out to carriers and unlocked devices beginning some time in February. While that likely means there will be a short certification period for carrier-sold devices, a BlackBerry rep said that Canadian carriers usually complete that process very quickly.
