Song lyrics arrive on Google search results and link to Google Play

Lyric sites, once the saviour of every impromptu at-home karaoke party, may soon see some fierce competition from the very hand that feeds them. Previously, when you’d search for “shake it off lyrics” on Google, you’d get multiple results that linked to lyric sites like A-Z Lyrics and Metro Lyrics, as well as a link to the official video on YouTube.

Soon that will change, though. According to TechCrunch, Google is now testing a new feature that will display the first few verses right in the search results. Then there’ll be a link to the Google Play Store for the full song (because that’s where Google is actually pulling these lyrics from).

Google hasn’t officially announced this change. TechCrunch notes that Google was beta testing the feature a few months back but is only rolling it out now.
