Temple Run VR lets you run from demon ice monkeys in the first person

Though the applications for virtual reality technology go way beyond gaming, it is one of the hotbeds for VR development. One of the biggest draws for VR, at least right now, is a more immersive gaming experience. The idea of playing a favourite game from within the game’s environment is extremely appealing for consumers.

Now one of the most popular mobile games is getting the VR treatment. The latest version of endless running game Temple Run was designed for Samsung’s Gear VR and allows you to run through an arctic wilderness. It’s one of the first fully playable games for Samsung’s VR headset and it turns popular Temple Run into a first-person experience. Temple Run VR players dodge patches of snow and ice as they run from Arctic Demon Monkeys.

“We’re thrilled to see this new virtual reality technology in the hands of consumers, and are inspired by the potential for new game experiences,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “It’s been a pleasure working with Samsung and Oculus to bring Temple Run VR to life, and we can’t wait to see what players think of the chase.”

Samsung’s Gear VR was announced earlier this year at IFA in Berlin. Availability has been promised for additional regions but Samsung has yet to talk any more about Canadian availability (earlier statements from Samsung Canada had indicated a Q4 release but that never came to fruition).
