WhatsApp cracks 700 million monthly users, says 30 billion messages are sent per day

Facebook-owned WhatsApp continues its rapid growth. According to Jan Koum, CEO and cofounder of WhatsApp, the popular messaging service has increased its active user base by 100 million since August, and now tops 700,000,000 active monthly users. In addition, WhatsApp users are now sending 30 billion messages per day.

“As humbled and excited as we are by these numbers and our continued growth, we’re even more excited to keep building a great product in 2015,” said Koum in his Facebook post. WhatsApp previously noted its intentions to bring voice calling to its users sometime during the first quarter of 2015.

WhatsApp is currently available for Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and Nokia S60 and S40 devices.
