HTC said to be partnering with Under Armour on fitness band

We have heard so much about HTC’s apparent smartwatch plans. For about four months in 2014, we entertained a steady stream of rumours relating to a HTC watch. Then, word came that the company had shelved its plans because of “a lack of wow factor.” And that was the end of the HTC smartwatch rumours. Until now.

Earlier this week, talk emerged of an MWC unveiling for HTC’s first foray into the world of smart timekeeping. Now, a report in Forbes is claiming that it won’t be a watch at all, but a fitness band.

Forbes cites a source who works closely with HTC in reporting that HTC’s band will be part of its collaboration with Under Armour, which was announced at CES 2015.

HTC’s partnership with Under Armour was announced at CES but offered little to no information as to what the two companies are up to. We know that HTC is building a series of products that will integrate UA Record, which is Under Armour’s health and fitness social network that allows you to track, analyze, and share your fitness activity. When HTC and Under Armour announced their partnership, HTC’s Peter Chou said:

“It’s an incredibly exciting new direction for us. We want our products to meet the needs of every individual – whether you’re training for a personal best in your next half marathon, or a professional athlete honing your performance with a full training staff behind you. So far, no company has been able to deliver this level of support and we feel we have a tremendous opportunity to disrupt and accelerate the development of this market.”

MWC kicks of in the first week of March in Barcelona, Spain, but press events will be taking place the week before. We’ll be on site to bring you the latest, so stay tuned!
