Basis Peak gets smartwatch notifications, ability to export data

Basis, the Intel-owned company responsible for the Basis Peak, has announced the arrival of smartwatch notifications on its heart rate monitoring watch.

The Peak arrived in Canada just last month via Best Buy and Future Shop. When it announced Canadian availability, Basis also promised that an update enabling smartwatch notifications would arrive before the end of the year. December came and went with no update for iOS and Android compatibility. Now, a little over two months after that functionality was initially promised, it has finally arrived.

Peak users can now receive notifications from their phone to their watch alerting them to the presence of texts, calendar alerts, emails, or incoming calls. Notifications will remain visible for five minutes on the watch. it’s not clear if this can be changed in the Peak app on your phone.

Also arriving is a new data export option that allows you to download minute-by-minute sensor data on your heart rate, calories burned, perspiration and temperature as a .csv file. You can then open and view this data in Excel.
