Microsoft confirms Sunrise purchase in YouTube video

A week ago, word got out that Microsoft had spent $100 million acquiring Sunrise, a popular social calendar tool that syncs with both Microsoft Exchange and Google Calendar. Though it seemed a sure thing, Microsoft never actually confirmed the acquisition and declined to comment when TechCrunch, the source of the story, reached out.

Now it seems the company has finally seen fit to confirm its latest purchase. A video recording of a three way Skype call between Microsoft’s Steve Clayton, Acompli CEO Javier Soltero, and Sunrise CEO Pierre Valade was just this morning posted to YouTube. The video was made private right after but has since reappeared online. The description reads:

“Microsoft’s Steve Clayton talks reinventing productivity with the CEOs of Sunrise and Acompli, two companies recently acquired by Microsoft.”

The short video talks about Valade’s intentions when he created Sunrise and how he hopes to improve productivity in a product category that was previously underestimated. Check it out below:

Microsoft purchased Accompli, a popular email application for iOS and Android, for $200 million late last year. It turned that purchase into native Outlook for Android and Outlook for iOS apps. These were announced late in January, shortly after Microsoft teased a better cross platform experience at its Windows 10 preview event.
