Huawei Watch announced with high-resolution circular display, 1.2GHz processor

After Huawei unveiled its Watch on YouTube yesterday, there was nothing left to wonder about its design. Now, with it being official, the internals of the Huawei Watch are known.

As expected, the Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch is circular, and is made from “scratch resistant cold-forged stainless steel.” The 1.4-inch AMOLED display has a 400 x 400 resolution (286ppi) and also features “scratch-proof sapphire crystal lens.” Under the display is a Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.1 and is compatible with any smartphone running Android 4.3 or higher. No word on the battery.

Apart from its ability to check email, calendar appointments and receive notifications, the device comes with a bunch of sensors, specifically a heart rate monitor, 6-axis motion sensor, and barometer that makes the Watch act like a fitness and health tracker by counting your calories, heart rate, number of steps climbed, steps taken, and distance travelled.

The Huawei Watch will feature 40 different watch faces, a range of watch straps, and will come with a magnetic charging station.

As for availability, Huawei noted its first smartwatch will arrive in 20 countries, including Canada, in gold, silver and black. Unfortunately, there was no specific time or pricing, only that “exact availability and pricing will be announced at a future date in each of the local markets.”
