Balzac’s Coffee enables mobile payment and loyalty support from SmoothPay

Balzac’s is the latest coffee house to introduce a mobile payment and loyalty program. The coffee chain today announced plans to implement Smoothpay, a Toronto-based startup founded by Brian Deck, David Yellowlees and Ryan Hall in 2014. Similar to UGO Wallet or the systems Starbucks and Tim Hortons currently have in place, Smoothpay allows you to securely store a credit card and loyalty card within an app.

Coffee enthusiasts will need to download the Balzac’s app and input their credit card info (Smoothpay notes that credit card info is not stored on your phone). Once they have the app set up, they’ll be able to pay for their order by tapping their phone at the terminal in their local Balzac’s. Loyalty points will be automatically updated following payment.

Balzac’s currently has nine locations across Ontario and its app is available for iPhone users as well as Android smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich or higher. In addition to facilitating mobile payments, the app will also map out nearby Balzac locations, email receipts for each order, and keep you updated on special offers to ensure your return.
