Google announces Morgan Stanley exec Ruth Porat as new CFO

Earlier this month, Canadian-born Patrick Pichette announced his retirement from Google, where he’s spent the last seven years as Chief Financial Officer. Pichette claimed that it was a yearning for travel and other unexperienced life goals that led to the decision, but he promised to stay on until Google found a replacement.

Today, the company posted word that Ruth Porat, CFO of Morgan Stanley, will be migrating her position to Google. The Stanford graduate comes with 28 years of experience in the financial field, and advised the U.S. Treasury during the financial crisis in 2008. She is also on the Stanford Board of Trustees and a director at the Council on Foreign Relations, so she is well-suited to the kind of cross-continent financial work Google is used to.

Porat begins on May 26th, two days before the start of Google I/O, and reports directly to CEO Larry Page.
