SaskTel rolls out mobile payments with TD Canada Trust on select Android and BlackBerry devices

SaskTel

A month ago, SaskTel teased the launch of its mobile payment platform, based on existing NFC and Bluetooth standards.

Today, that service is online, in collaboration with a single Canadian financial institution, TD Canada Trust.

Like solutions from other providers, SaskTel Mobile Payments require a new NFC-capable SIM card, on which a user’s credit card credentials are securely cordoned, as well as a compatible smartphone.

The list currently includes:

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Alpha
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Samsung Galaxy S4
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Sony Xperia Z3
  • Sony Xperia Z2
  • Sony Xperia Z1
  • HTC One (M8)
  • HTC One (M7)
  • LG G3
  • LG G2
  • BlackBerry Bold 9900

Right now, only TD Canada Trust has certified SaskTel’s SIM cards for its network, so using SaskTel Mobile Payments involves opening the TD app. It’s unclear whether SaskTel is working with other financial institutions, but nearly every other major bank and credit union has at least one carrier partner for mobile payments.
