Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 poses like S6 in new metal-framed render

Samsung is inevitably going to follow up its successful Galaxy Tab S line, in both 8-inch and 9.7-inch flavours, with a Galaxy S6-inspired redesign and spec sheet.

That is according to OnLeaks, which has been intermittently posting updates on the upcoming tablet, set to be announced sometime in May or June.

According to this latest leaked render, the Galaxy Tab S2 will feature a metal frame like the S6, but not the glass back, which would be too heavy on a larger surface. Instead, it will have a plastic back similar to the Note 4.

The spec sheet aligns with the Galaxy S6, too, in all but one area: screen aspect ratio. Samsung seems to be taking a cue from the iPad line by recreating the Tab S2 in a new 4:3 aspect ratio, which is perfect for reading and other portrait activities, though it leaves a black bar above and below the content in landscape mode.

The device is expected to feature a 64-bit Exynos processor, a 2048×1536 pixel SAMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage, an 8MP rear camera and 2.1MP front camera with Android 5.1 out of the box. Like last year, there will be an LTE variant, though this one will support, like the Galaxy S6, Category 6 speeds up to 300Mbps.

Like the S6, too, the physical home button, oriented in portrait for the 8-inch and landscape for the 9.7-inch, will have a no-slide fingerprint sensor. Thank goodness.

Update: Another image of the Galaxy Tab S2 has surfaced, now showing the back which seems to be made of plastic. In addition, this picture reveals Samsung intention to launch a model with cellular connectivity as there is a SIM card slot.
