Apple reportedly set to replace Newsstand with new Flipboard-style app

A late rumour addition to the upcoming WWDC announcements from Recode has Apple poised to unveil a new Flipboard-style app that will bring the latest news to iOS users’ devices. Apple will reportedly replace Newsstand, which debuted in 2011, and loop in top stories from popular media publications and publishers such as ESPN, The New York Times, Conde Nast and Hearst.

Like Facebook with its recently announced Instant Articles platform, Apple will allow publishers to keep 100 per cent of the advertising revenue that is generated within the app. In the report, one unnamed partner says the arrangement is “very favorable.”

Unfortunately, Recode doesn’t go on to provide any information as to the what the app may be called when it’s unveiled, but we will bring you all the details from WWDC 2015.
