Amazon Prime Day in Canada saw sales increase by nearly 400%, most popular product was Huggies

Amazon Prime Day was July 15th, and while many Canadians were disappointed by the deals, Amazon is reveling in its success. The massive online retailer announced today that sales broke global sales records, noting “worldwide order growth increased 266% over the same day last year and 18% more than Black Friday 2014.”

Apart from electronics, Amazon discounted clothes, baby products, DVD box sets and books. In total, it sold over 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible countries (Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France and Austria), which tallied 398 items ordered per second. Amazon failed to give specific numbers, but said “customers ordered hundreds of thousands of Amazon devices – making it the largest device sales day ever worldwide,” possibly the Kindle or even a fire sale of its Fire phone.

Specifically for Canada, Amazon said that sales on Prime Day increased by nearly 400% compared to the same day in 2014. Curious what the biggest Prime Day seller were? Here is the complete Top 10 list:

– Huggies Diapers
– Kindle
– Instant Pot Programmable Pressure Cooker
– Linke Apple MFI Lightning USB Cable
– Sennheiser RS170 digital Wireless Headphones with Dynamic Bass and Surround Sound
– Breaking Bad Complete Series Limited Edition Barrel
– Crucial Solid State Drive
– Phillips Bodygroom Pro with 3D Pivoting Head shaver
– Jackery Mini Premium Ultra-Compact Aluminum Portable Charger
– Flashpoint – The Complete Series

“Prime Day was a record-breaker globally – it surpassed all of our expectations,” said Alexandre Gagnon, Country Manager for Amazon.ca. “This week has been the busiest ever for Prime signups and we saw more members shopping on Amazon.ca on Prime Day than on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”
