Articles from the NYT are coming to the Starbucks mobile app

If you’re a My Starbucks Rewards loyalty member, you’ll soon be able to read select articles from The New York Times within the Starbucks app.

Announced today, the deal is an extension of an already existing partnership between Starbucks and The New York Times. Starting in 2016, daily and weekend content from the NYT will become available within the coffee company’s mobile app, and any loyalty member that signs up for a subscription with the paper will become eligible to earn additional loyalty points from Starbucks.

“We see a future in which the Starbucks retail experience seamlessly extends to the mobile devices our millions of customers carry with them every day,” said Howard Schultz, chairman and CEO of Starbucks, in a prepared statement. “Our relationship with The New York Times is the perfect example of bringing this vision to life.”

Indeed, the company plans to partner with other publications to distribute their content through the Starbucks app, and, in a way, they’re already doing something similar with their recent Spotify partnership. No specific content providers are listed at this time, but one imagines they’ll be other top-of-mind brands.
