Third-party Apple Watch docks will soon feature integrated chargers

If you’ve been disappointed by the current quality and variety of Apple Watch docks provided by third-party accessory makers, things are about to get better.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple plans to let accessory manufacturers in its Made for iPhone, iPad and iPod (MFI) program start building charging pads for the Apple Watch directly into their accessories. This is contrast to the current setup where dock makers have to include an opening for users to place one of Apple’s own chargers.

Ultimately, what this means for consumers is that they’ll be soon able to buy docks that are more functional and that feature more creative designs.

Consumers will likely have to wait until the end of the year before they start to see these new docks arrive at their local Apple Store, however. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has yet to start even accepting new designs for approval.
