Google Hangouts now has a home on the web

Hangouts Webpage

The Hangouts team has been busy. It was only a week ago that the Android version of Hangouts got a visual makeover, and now Google is launching a website dedicated to the popular messaging service.

Google employee Jordanna Chord announced the launch of the dedicated website in a Google+ post. “We are launching another way to use Hangouts today,” she said. “From our new site you’ll be able to take advantage of the best of Hangouts in the browser, along with an inspiring image to get you through the day. Check it out and let us know what you think.”

If there’s an advantage to this iteration of Hangouts has over what’s available through Gmail and Google+, it’s that the dedicated website does a much better job of highlighting what the service can do. As soon as a person lands on the hangouts.google.com domain, the design of website clearly says that Hangouts is for video calls, phone calls and messages. As I said, this is a marked improvement over using the service in Gmail, where it can be hard for the user to even find the service.
