After a slight hiccup, Cyanogen OS 12.1 is once again being pushed to the OnePlus One

OnePlus One

After it started rolling out Cyanogen OS 12.1 to its first smartphone, the OnePlus One, earlier this week, Chinese startup OnePlus was abruptly forced to recall the over-the-air update.

COS 12.1 was pushed to approximately two percent of devices before OnePlus discovered several critical bugs had made their way into the software from the Cyanogen team. Most OnePlus users were eagerly anticipating the release because it was set to bring their phones up to the latest version of Android, 5.1.1. After several OnePlus One owners took to the company’s forums to complain about the recall, community moderator Funk Wizard detailed why the company decided to halt the rollout.

Among several other critical issues, the update that was sent out yesterday morning caused some OnePlus Ones to have problems maintaining a stable link with whatever cellular network they were connected to. Worse still, restarting those phones caused that issue to be become compounded; an affected phone would take a long time to connect to any network, and even after it established a connection, it would have trouble maintaining a strong signal.

Moreover, there were several bugs involving the OnePlus One’s lock screen, compass and NFC chip. Adding insult to injury, several bugs that were supposed to be fixed by the update were actually still present in the release.

However, OnePlus and Cyanogen seem to have been able to quickly resolve the issue. Later in the same day, the update started rolling out again.

As with almost every update OnePlus pushes out to its phone, the first people to receive it are those whom live in India. Canadian OnePlus One owners should see the 12.1 in the near future.

Correction: a previous version of this post erroneously said that OnePlus had to stop the rollout of Oxygen OS 2.0.1 to the OnePlus 2.
