Google’s first of many monthly Nexus updates is here

Nexus 6

After Stagefright, the MMS bug that malicious users could exploit to take over a person’s Android smartphone, was disclosed, Google and a variety of other Android OEMs promised to start issuing monthly security updates.

The first of those monthly updates is now available via the company’s developer website.

Depending the Nexus devices you own, there are a couple of different files to look out for.

Nexus Player owners want to search for LMY48N.

Anyone that has a Nexus 4, Nexus 5 or Nexus 6 will instead want to search for LMY48M. Likewise, Nexus 7 owners will want to search for the same file, as will Nexus 9 and 10 owners.

Most of the files are less than 20MB in size and contain a variety of bug fixes. OTA updates have already sporadically begun rolling out to various devices, too. If you’ve received it, let us know below.
