Bell and Virgin Mobile launch WiFi calling on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus [Update]

iPhone 6s

With the release of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus a little more than a week away, Bell is preparing to roll out iOS WiFi Calling to Apple’s next pair of smartphones.

The company contacted MobileSyrup today to inform us that the feature is ready to go for September 25. Unlike competitor Rogers, which had trouble rolling out the feature yesterday, Bell does not currently plan to support WiFi calling with Apple smartphones prior to the 6s and 6s Plus.

Initially added with iOS 8, WiFi Calling allows users suffering through poor network conditions to place or transition to phone calls over a WiFi signal without losing their connection with the person on the other end.

Update: Virgin Mobile has also announced that it will support iOS 9 WiFi calling. Like Bell, the feature will only be available to iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s users.

Update #2: For those Bell and Virgin Mobile customers who opted to purchase the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, WiFi calling is now available to you. Still no details as to when the feature will be coming to other iOS devices.
