Apple sets opening weekend record by selling 13 million iPhones

Ten million iPhones in the first weekend is what Apple was projecting last week. Today, after the first weekend of sales, Apple has announced that it successfully sold over 13 million iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones in three days, which the company states is “a new record.”

“Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9.”

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are available through Apple retail channels and also from various Canadian carriers, including Bell, Telus, Rogers, Eastlink, Koodo SaskTel, Videotron, MTS, Virgin and Fido.
