No Canadian carriers will sell the Microsoft Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL (Update)

Update: MobileSyrup has learned that as of now no carriers intend on selling the Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL in Canada. Microsoft will sell the phone through its own in-store and Ecommerce channels outright and unlocked, for $749 and $849 CAD respectively.

There is a possibility this will change, but we’ve heard from sources at Rogers, Bell and Telus (the Rogers source is not the rep posting to Facebook below) that the carriers chose to pass on the handset.

When Microsoft unveiled Windows 8 in 2012 it found a partner in Rogers that backed them up. At the time, Rogers proudly declared it was the “preferred Canadian wireless partner for the launch of Windows 8.” However, this time around for Windows 10, Rogers is hedging its bets.

The new Windows 10 smartphones from Microsoft are the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950XL. These two flagship devices are available now to pre-order through Microsoft Store for $749 and $849, respectively. In the United States Microsoft has announced it will be available through AT&T, but as of now there are no Canadian carriers willing to carry the device. (Bell declined to comment on whether it would carry either of the devices, and Telus did not respond in time for comment.)

On Facebook, when asked about the availability of the Lumia 950XL, a Rogers representative confirmed, “We don’t have any plans to carry it at this time.” There could be hope for the Lumia 950.

The Lumia 950XL has a 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 OLED display, an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 20 megapixel PureView rear-facing camera that can capture 4K videos, 32GB of internal storage, and a USB Type-C port.
