Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now unofficially available on the Nexus 4

With the launch of Google’s latest Android operating system, Marshmallow 6.0, owners of older Nexus devices have been left in the dust. But never fear, a developer named Dmitry Grinberg has come up with an unofficial solution to get the new OS running on Nexus 4 devices.

This modified Marshmallow operating system image, which is part of Android Open Source Project (AOSP), is published on Grinberg’s website, although he emphasizes to install it at their own risk. However, because of high download volumes, actually getting your hands on this modified version of Marshmallow is taking awhile for most users (download mirrors are available in this Reddit thread).

While we haven’t tried installing this custom ROM ourselves, user comments in this Reddit threat indicate it’s working with no issues. Of course in order for this to work you’ll need Android ADB installed on your computer (download Android SDK software at this link).

Android Marshmallow rolled out on Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9 devices on October 5.
