BlackBerry begins taking Priv pre-registrations, confirms 3,410mAh battery

Priv

BlackBerry has started to take “pre-registrations” for the its upcoming Android-powered Priv smartphone — essentially a way for BlackBerry to gauge interest for the device.

Anyone that signs up will be notified as soon as the smartphone becomes available to purchase. Additionally, BlackBerry confirmed some of the technical specifications related to the upcoming QWERTY slider. Specifically, the phone will feature a 5.4-inch display, a large 3,410 mAh battery and a Schneider-Kreuznach certified camera. Other specs related to the Priv include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, an 18 megapixel camera, a 5 megapixel front-facing camera and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Furthermore, the website also mentions the phone will introduce a feature called DTEK, an app that sounds like it will scan the device for malware and security vulnerabilities.

Missing still is the BlackBerry Priv’s official release date, pricing and carrier availability.

CEO John Chen recently stated the Priv represents, “BlackBerry’s heritage and core mission of protecting our customers’ privacy… BlackBerry is making sure that our products invoke this mantra that your privacy is your privilege.”
