The latest round of monthly Nexus security patches are ready

As first reported this summer, Google has been issuing monthly security updates over-the-air to its Nexus devices since September. As promised, the patches for November are going out to Nexus owners in the next 24-48 hours.

If you are really keen to get your hands on the latest security updates, you can head straight to the Nexus Developers page, which provides firmware downloads and instructions to update the device software manually.

Eligible devices include the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 7 2013, and Nexus Player.

Among the most pertinent issues fixed in the latest set of patches is a “critical security vulnerability that could enable remote code execution on an affected device through multiple methods such as email, web browsing and MMS when processing media files,” but there have been no reports of this exploit actually being used so far.

To learn more about the program and keep up to date on the latest security fixes, you can also subscribe to the Google Group for Android security updates here.
