Google Play Books’ latest update aims to improve the comic book reading experience

Common sense dictates mobile devices are a great medium for reading comic books. With their sharp, bright screens tablets and smartphones seem like the perfect place to consume comics.

In reality though the wide range of device display sizesĀ often hinder the comic book reading experience on these devices.

Today, Google aims to simplify this issue and give comic fans an improvedĀ methodĀ to enjoy their favourite comics through Google Play Books. It’s now easier to follow stories by flipping a device on its side. In landscape, users will also find a brand new vertical scrolling interface optimized specifically for comic books.

In addition to the improved reading experience, Google Play Books’ latest update will also make it simpler to find the comics you’re looking for in the Google Play Store. A new comics section organizes volumes, issues and special editions of top comic series, alongside personal recommendations based on reader taste.

Comics from publishers including DC, Marvel, Image, IDW and Dark Horse can already be found on Google Play. For the next week the store will be offering free issues of several comics for those interested. The updated Google Play Books app isĀ rolling out on AndroidĀ over the course the next few days with plans to launch onĀ iOSĀ soon. The updated app is coming to theĀ U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., India, Singapore, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.
