If you don’t own a Nexus device, the initial excitement that comes after announcement of a new version of Android is always followed up by a long period of waiting to see if and when your particular smartphone will be updated.

For some phones, that process can take weeks and months, which is where, if you’re the adventurous type, CyanogenMod comes into the picture.

The team behind popular open source mod announced this morning that CyanogenMod 13 is ready for public consumption. This is the version of CyanogenMod that incorporates improvements found in Android Marshmallow. The OnePlus One, Nexus 7 2013 (WiFi or LTE) , LG G4 (EMEA only), Galaxy Tab 8.4 and Moto X 2014 are among the first phones to gain access to a “nightly” version of CyanogenMod 13.

Now, before you go ahead and flash your phone, the Cyanogen team says there are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, anyone that decides to upgrade from a stable CyanogenMod 12.1 build will notice a decrease in the overall quality. This is because the team considers its nightly releases experimental. Second, updating to CyanogenMod 13 will also require updating your smartphone’s Google apps via a service like Xposed or OpenGapps.

Update: Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P users are not left out as CM 13 is now available to download, but remember this is an early build so there might be a number of bugs in place.
