SaskTel launches wireless service in Stony Rapids and Black Lake

Regional wireless SaskTel has expanded its coverage in Saskatchewan, reaching both Stony Rapids and Black Lake. The new tower expansion was in partnership with SaskTel, Athabasca Basin Development and Huawei Canada. The total cost was $6 million – Athabasca provided $249,000, Huawei contributed $385,000 and the remaining funds were from SaskTel.

Jim Reiter, the Minister Responsible for SaskTel, stated, “SaskTel remains committed to connecting all the residents of this vast Province to technology and the opportunities it brings. In addition to this important initiative, with support from the Connecting Canadians Program, SaskTel is also working on extending and increasing broadband internet speeds to an additional 26 Northern communities.”

SaskTel has over 600,000 wireless subscribers and its 4G network reaches 98% of Saskatchewan’s population.
