Google Play Music gets a new unified search bar on Android

Google Play Music

Google has pushed a minor update to its Play Music app. The streaming service’s Android app now has a new search bar more inline with the company’s other apps. While probably not the user interface redesign most Play Music users were hoping for (Google, can we please get the Photos team working on this joint?), the new search bar functions better than what was in the app previously.

The nice touch here is that users don’t need to download an update to start using this functionality; it’s a server-side update that Google is currently in the process of rolling out.

Google recently made the decision to shutdown Songza, the playlist streaming service it acquired in 2014. On January 31st, Songza’s excellent playlists will only be available through Google Play Music.
