Uber offers riders app experiences while they’re on the move

Car trips are notoriously boring, but owning a smartphone means you have the entire world at your fingertips. Uber has spent approximately the last five years completely changing the way mobile phone users get around, and now the company is working on a way to stave off boredom during Uber trips.

Uber announced plans today to launch a new developer feature called Uber Trip Experiences. The new toolkit means app developers will be able to use information about Uber rides to make better use of rider’s transportation time. Some examples of possible applications include: creating music playlists based on the length of the ride, a news synopsis based on the location and the duration of trip, or even tying into the rider’s thermostat to turn on their heat on their way home.

With the right app tie-ins, this initiative could result in interesting experiences. Expect the technology to start showing up in apps during Uber trips over the course of the next few months.
