Apple is reportedly leasing space in Kanata Research Park in Ottawa

In the late 90s and early 2000s, Canada’s capital was a tech powerhouse, known at the time as Silicon Valley North. Since then, most of the bigger tech companies have left Ottawa, but the last few years have seen a resurgence of businesses choosing headquarters in the National Capital Region.

Sources in the area are reporting today that Apple has leased space in an office complex in the Kanata Research Park, to be used for research and development. Though the company has yet to announce anything publicly, the 22,100 square foot space is located just a stone’s throw away from BlackBerry’s automotive headquarters, QNX Software Systems.

Apple has been increasing R&D spending in the last couple of years, and is working on research facilities in England and Japan, in addition to its massive new campus in California. Given Ottawa’s rich history in the tech sector, a new research facility focused on car technology there would not be too surprising.
