New OxygenOS build brings some OnePlus 2 features to the OnePlus One

OnePlus One

OxygenOS 2.1.4, the community build set to allow OnePlus One owners to move their smartphone definitively from Cyanogen OS to OnePlus’ own operating system, is now available.

Initially announced back in November by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, this is not the update that is supposed to bring the OnePlus One up to Android Marshmallow — that update is still scheduled to come sometime later this quarter. Instead, 2.1.4 more or less brings the OnePlus One to software feature parity with the more recently released One Plus 2.

I say more or less because due to the different internal components found between the two devices, OnePlus says it had to strip some features to make this version of OxygenOS compatible with the OnePlus One. To start, the operating system’s handy screen temperature slider is missing. Likewise, there’s no manual capture mode and support for the RAW picture file format. Support for fingerprint authentication also didn’t make the cut. Lastly, this version of OxygenOS doesn’t support MaxxAudio’s sound tech.

It does, however, add the Dark Mode that OnePlus 2 users have been enjoying since the last OxygenOS update, as well as smaller features like custom icon packs in the launcher and the requisite performance improvements and bug fixes.

Moreover, given that this software was built in collaboration with the OnePlus community, it’s not an official release available via an OTA; as such, to gain access to OxygenOS, OnePlus One owners will need flash their own device with the new software. The files needed to do so, as well as instructions on how to carry out the procedure can be found on the OnePlus forums.
