UMi Touch aims to be the next Android ‘flagship killer’

It seems that every few months another Android OEM comes along and claims that their smartphone features “flagship killing” technical specifications and a ridiculous low price tag.

UMi, a little known Chinese manufacturer, looks like it wants to take a page from OnePlus with its upcoming UMi Touch Android smartphone. According to Umi, the Umi Touch features high-end specs at a low $99 USD price tag (about $137 CAD) for the first 1000 customers. The cost of the phone then goes up to $170 USD (approximately $236 CAD) on February 18th.

The phone will reportedly launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, a rarity among low cost smartphones, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4000mAh battery, 13 megapixel Sony-supplied image sensor, 3GB of RAM, and a MediaTek CPU.

The UMi Touch is expected to begin shipping on March 20th. Very little is known right now about UMi and the UMi Touch apart from the information featured in this story, so it’s likely best to err on the side of caution with this upcoming device.
