Suretap will discontinue prepaid MasterCard support on April 30

SureTap

On April 30th, 2016, Rogers and Suretap will discontinue their joint MasterCard prepaid credit card program, the two companies announced this afternoon.

Launched back in 2014, the program allows Suretap users to purchase a prepaid MasterCard for payments at contactless point of sales terminals.

Users can continue to add funds to their Suretap wallet account through the program until April 1, 2016, though the company is encouraging anyone with a remaining prepaid balance to spend it between now and April 30. For those that would prefer a refund, it’s possible to apply for one on Suretap’s website.

In a press release sent to MobileSyrup, Suretap did not provide a reason for the program’s discontinuation, though it’s possible the news we heard yesterday about MasterCard’s plans to extend Apple Pay support to Canada later this year could have something to do with the move.
