Free-to-play is here to stay: 100 million people play Supercell’s games daily

Clash of Clans

The free-to-play world era of mobile gaming is frustrating, time consuming and in most cases, downright annoying, but it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

According to a new video released today by Supercell, over 100 million people play the company’s games every day. To drive this point home, the video makes a number of comparisons, most notably pointing out the fact that 100 million is the same number of people in the U.S. who drink coffee everyday, as well as the entire population of London, Beijing, Delhi, New York City, Tokyo, Seoul, Rio De Janeiro, Moscow, Dawnbreak City and Buenos Aires combined.

Supercell says its 100 million daily users are scattered across its four major games: Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Boom Beach and Hay Day. Clash Royale, which released just this month, is the first game the company has released in three years.

Unlike most free-to-play game creators, Supercell says it focuses on creating quality free-to-play gaming experiences. Similar to reputable video game companies like Nintendo, Supercell says it believes in quality over quantity, emphasizing that it has only ever released 14 games.
