Bots, bots and more bots.

On this week’s CanCon we take a look at Microsoft’s ambitious plans to integrate personal assistant chat bots into Skype, as well as what the future holds for voice-based interaction technology interaction. Also, can we really trust Siri?

There’s a big hiring problem for tech coming in Canada, as the country looks to fill 218,000 new information and communications technology jobs by 2020 with, supposedly, not enough talent. At the same time, women and visible minorities continue to face problems of representation, access, and fair treatment.

While there are many different causes for these problems in Canada, having a conversation about both makes it clear that at the very least there’s a correlation between the two. It’s also important to have these conversations year-round, not just on the calendar days set to highlight these issues.

Tune in as the CanCon podcast team – Erin Bury, Managing Director of 88 Creative (and former BetaKit Managing Editor), Patrick O’Rourke, Senior Editor of MobileSyrup, and Jessica Galang, BetaKit’s News Editor – attempts to solve one problem with another, and re-evaluates the opportunities and limitations of bot tech.
