Toronto-made Figure 1, an ‘Instagram for doctors,’ reaches 1 million user milestone

Toronto-based Figure 1, the photo sharing service forĀ the medical industry, has garnered a reputationĀ as the go-to source for connecting healthcare professionals. The app is referred to as theĀ “Instagram for doctors,” allowing users to upload photos and seek guidance from other practitionersĀ forĀ various injuries or medical problems.

Figure 1 now has more than one million users, which is an increase of 500,000 from seven months ago. The company also notes that the images posted to its platform have been viewed more than 1.5 billion times.

While message boards have been an integral part of the app for some time now, the company has just added direct one-on-one communication messaging to the app, allowing doctors to communicate privately with one another.

The company was founded by Joshua Landy in mid-2012 when he found that ā€œdoctors were already using their smartphones and other devices to text each other pictures, or to look up medical references.ā€ Landy partnered with software developer Richard Penner and former journalist Gregory Levey to launch a platform for medical professionals to easily and safely share photos without compromising patientsā€™ privacy. The app officially launched summer of 2013.

“The more connected healthcare is, the more lives can be saved. This is the great promise of Figure 1,” says the company on its most recent blog post.

The app is available on Android and iOS.
