Xbox One Shomi app launches on May 3 [Update: Now live]

Update: The Shomi app for the Xbox One is now live and available to download.

After launching on eighth generation home video game consoles via the PlayStation 4, Shomi is set to arrive on the Xbox One later this week. Starting on May 3, Xbox One owners will be able to download the on-demand video app to their Microsoft-made console, Shomi announced today.

“We’ve heard from many shomi members and Xbox One users that this launch is something they’ve been waiting for. We’re thrilled to have shomi available on this popular platform,” said Ann Tebo, senior director of customer experience and insights at Shomi.

Once the app is available on the Xbox Store next Tuesday, users will need to download and launch the app to generate a unique activation code. Once redeemed on the Shomi website, users can start streaming video content on their Xbox One.

Launched back in 2014, Shomi, co-owned by Shaw and Rogers, was previously only available to those with a cable subscription from one of the company’s parent companies. Since this past August, the on-demand and over-the-top video app has been available to all Canadians.
