Most Roam Mobility SIMs to now expire after 6 months of inactivity

Roam Mobility announced today that its SIMs will now expire after 6 months of inactivity starting May 9th.

That means to keep your number, you’ll now need to purchase at least one day of service every 6 months (at a cost of $2.95 to $4.95 depending on the daily plan chosen). Roam pledges to send emails to customers when their SIMs are about to expire, reminding you to top up if you want to keep it active.

Should your SIM expire Roam indicates it “will not able to restore the SIM or USA phone number associated with the account under any circumstances.” To use Roam’s services again, a subscriber would need to purchase a new SIM, forcing them to also get a new US phone number. Roam says it plans to send out an email notification when a subscriber has a SIM that is nearing expiry.

Because Roam lets you reschedule plans, you can purchase a daily plan once every six months, but move it to a future date. These individual days could later be strung together consecutively when you need service, one ending as the next begins.

Roam did note an exception to the new policy. People who have ever purchased one of Roam’s “Snowbird” 90 day plans will be exempted, and will continue to enjoy up to one year of inactivity before their SIMs expire.
