SaskTel to invest $2.1M to build out additional LTE coverage along Highway 18

Later this summer, Saskatchewan residents who live along the 130km stretch of Highway 18 between Estevan and the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border can expect get better LTE coverage thanks to an investment SaskTel plans to make in the region.

The regional carrier has now announced it will invest $2.1 million to increase LTE capacity in Estevan and surrounding communities by approximately 25 percent.

“SaskTel understands that people want to be connected at all times. Enhanced wireless services helps meet that desire for people travelling in the area and residents alike,” said Jim Reiter, the MLA responsible for overseeing SaskTel, in a statement to MobileSyrup. “SaskTel has invested and will continue to invest a tremendous amount in rural Saskatchewan.”

The crown corporation says it expects to complete building out the infrastructure to support the increased capacity later this summer.

Just last month, SaskTel announced plans to invest $331 million to build out additional infrastructure throughout the province. Approximately $45.9 million will go towards building out wireless network enhancements.
