Samsung Galaxy S7 Active has a massive 4,000mAh battery and ‘shatter-resistant’ glass

The first reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active have started pouring in ahead of its June 10 launch at AT&T, with the press focusing mainly on the massive battery.

The phone, which is being produced in titanium gray, sandy gold and green camo, has a 4,000 mAh battery. That’s a significant upgrade on the S7’s 3,000 mAh or even the S7 Edge’s 3,600 mAh battery. This adds heft to the device, however, and a Samsung spokesperson told The Verge that they could not confirm whether the S7 Active would work with the Gear VR headset due to its size.

Samsung also claims the glass on the phone is “shatter-resistant,” and can withstand drops from five feet, even screen first. This was purportedly achieved by adding layer of polycarbonate over top the Gorilla Glass 4.

Additionally, the phone has three physical buttons, one of which is a dedicated shortcut button above the volume. This button allows users to open different apps without having to use the touchscreen through certain patterns or types of pressing.

The phone is priced at approximately $795 USD exclusively for AT&T in the U.S., and there’s no word yet on whether or not the device will spread to other carriers or come north, unlike the S6 Active which skipped Canada.
