Canadian government will launch action plan and interactive website to promote innovation

Canadians have begun to fancy themselves as being among the world’s most innovative and outside-the-box thinkers. This progress can’t continue however without a consistent stream of support from all levels of government.

As of today, the federal government has put forth an action plan to focus on six prime areas of development in order to build a “global centre of innovation” right here in  Canada.

According to Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains, this vision will focus on strengthening the middle class by creating jobs and driving growth.

The six areas of action include, “promoting an entrepreneurial and creative society, supporting global science excellence, building world-leading clusters and partnerships, growing companies and accelerating clean growth, competing in a digital world” and ” improving ease of doing business.”

Bains went on to say in a statement sent to MobileSyrup that he invites all Canadians to provide their feedback on the best pathway towards innovation and to watch for the launch of an interactive website where these views can be shared.

“Canada needs a bold, coordinated strategy on innovation that delivers results for all Canadians. This engagement process reflects the Government’s commitment to mobilizing all Canadians to action and to fostering innovation as a Canadian value,” said Bains in a statement.

“We don’t need another report on what our challenges are. We need fresh ideas and a joint action plan that will make innovation a national priority and put Canada on a firm path to long-term economic growth.”

Furthermore, round-table discussions will take place across the country, hosted by innovators and leaders in their fields who will ideally be representative of the private sector, universities and colleges, the not-for-profit sector, social entrepreneurs and indigenous businesses.

Bains’ motion was supported by two fellow ministers, the honourable Kirsty Duncan, minister of Science, and the honourable Bardish Chagger, minister of Small Business and Tourism. Together, these three ministers will lead specific activities within this initiative to ensure its implementation across all sectors of government.

In a statement sent to MobileSyrup, both ministers were extremely supportive of and excited to focus on Canadian innovation.

Chagger said that supporting Canadian innovation will be a great benefit to local business, and Canada’s reputation on a global scale.

“The Innovation Agenda will help position Canada as a leader in innovation on the world stage. I am proud to be part of this exciting opportunity for our country, which will greatly benefit small businesses, and I encourage all Canadian entrepreneurs to participate in this movement toward a more innovative country.”
